    Question Pheonix users, pads?

I am still a noob working out my hammock gear (pay no mind to the pun). I have a 20* Pheonix/Burrow set up and and looking for the best way to insulate my lower legs. The Pheonix is standard length and I am 6'2" tall with about 20 to 22" of leg overhang off he end of the Pheonix. I sleep in a WBBB 1.7 SL.

I am a light weight camper, not ultra light yet, but working on it after many years of traditional backpacking. My base weight is now down around 14#. I like my items to be multi use, hence I went with the Pheonix over the Incubator. I normally carry a zlite sit pad, but it is to small to insulate my legs. My Ospray Exos was comfortable under my legs when using a Thermarest Prolite Plus, but not so with the UQ.

So, I am looking to the collective wisdom found here on HF and in particular, Pheonx users. I would like to know what you use for your insulation and what dimentions work best for you? Do you put your pad in the foot box of your TQ or under it?

I had somebody recommend using a chunk of reflectix some time back, nice and light, works as a sit pad, goes with me always now.

    Cheers

I've used closed cell foam the heavy stuff, been wanting to try the evazote that gossamer gear sells is pretty nice stuff and very light. I've been planning to buy a piece to cut up and replace the back pad in my Ohm and double as a leg pad but have been wincing at the shipping cost. Thought to split the cost of a 1/4" with some of my local hangers possibly.

Otherwise the Thermarest Lite Seat is a bit small but a good option at 3oz and thicker which might make better for colder weather when I typically wear down booties as well.

I use a piece of Reflectix in the quilt footbox.

Standard Reflectix width x 36 inches long.

I also use this as the pack support in my Golite Ion.

I have been using Phoenix's for several years and my favorite set up for leg insulation is a cut down Z-Rest into 6 section's and 2 sections. The reason I carry it seperated is so I can put the six section under my feet and the two section under my but if need be. I also use the two section as a sit pad and all eight sections act as a pack frame. Also when my dog is with me she sleeps on the six section and the two section act as my foot pad. When I do use the pad I put me t inside my burrow foot box to keep it in place.

I use a piece of an Evazote pad

I got from Canada. It's yellow and is a bit thicker than the thin Gossamer Gear pads. It's a generous butt pad in camp and big enough for lower legs and feet in hammock with Phoenix UQ. The source is Mountain Equipment Coop. They sell a range of thicknesses. I think I have the 6 mm, which is about a 1/4 inch.

I remember from your video that you really like the thermarestt sit pad under your feet, but it is just too small for me leaving about 8" or so of my legs exposed, so I am looking for something a little longer. By the way, your videos and posts have helped me out more than I can describe. Thanks Shug

I am currently leaning towards hacking a chunk off the bottom of my z-rest or finding some of that windshield reflectix stuff. I was at Home Despit today, but could not find it and none of the "associates" knew what I as talking about.

What dimentions have people found work well. Should I consider tapering the bottom of the pad some? How much?
