Heck of a deal on down at KMart

The KMart here in Chippewa, PA has TGF (TheGreatFind) "Super Down Bed Pillows" on clearance for $10. They have 16oz of duck down in each, and it seems to be pretty decent quality. I just cut one open and I think the 75/25 Down/feathers mix they have on the label is pretty honest, as is the 16oz claim. It's at least as good quality as any other department store item I've salvaged down from.

That shakes out to $0.62/oz, which is pretty **** good.

Originally they were $39, I spotted them at $29 a few weeks ago, and just stumbled on a bin full of them marked down to $10 this morning. I grabbed 4, and will probably go back for more tonight. This is the second KMart I've spotted them in, though I haven't checked the other local one to see if they're marked down to the same price, or even still in stock. I wouldn't be surprised if this deal was available at other KMarts elsewhere.

I might toss a couple up on the PIF thread or trade for something. I only need 2 or 3 to finish my summer weight quilts. I'll hang on to another 2 or 3 to do my new winter weight TQ later.

I found them too and posted about them HERE, Post #9. They were $19 back then, but now they're $10 on line also. Seems like a good deal to me: it says "pure duck down", i.e., not a feather/down blend. I know duck down is not as warm as goose down, but heck! For $10, I'd give it a try too!

HERE's a link to buying on line. Let us see what you make with them, Frost!

Interestingly, when I was researching down for my DIY stuff, I called up a down manufacturer and asked about the difference in warmth between goose and duck. Even though they sold both kinds (and goose at a substantially higher price) they told me that there was no noticeable difference in insulation value for a given loft, and recommended I go with the duck down as I didn't need 850+FP down for my project when 750FP or 800FP would do.

SCORE! 2 pillows purchased, opening up looked vera nice. For those that have experience, would I be safe to call this 550 or 600FP? Looks very similar to a vest I harvested once.

    You guys...

I just ran into town and picked up 5 @ $9 each. Cha-ching!

I've been looking for a score like this for a year. No more excuses. New UQ here I come.

Thanks a million for the heads up!

I love how people here think! So very creative! Marketing people notice a sudden uptick in two sizes of tablecloths and feather pillows! Something strange must be going on.
