    Recommend a DIY hammock

    Hi all...
I'd like to make a hammock. I have a HH Expedition, but would like something lighter. I'm 5' 10" ~210 lbs. I have some 1.1 that I bought on a HF group buy, but was told that it is actually 1.0

I've been looking at making a ghost hammock, but the more I look around the more confused on what I should make. help!

Also, has anyone used this stuff to make a hammock and is around my weight. Hoping to get actual experience, besides, "it should hold". Thanks.

Is this the ACU fabric from Magna? I was told by Magna that it is actually stronger than regular 1.1/1.0. However, I would still make mine a double layer to be sure. As for design - I'm partial to Knotty's gathered end hammock with the adjustable sides.

The Magma ACU does weigh 1.0 oz/sy. I weighed it myself as I have 24 yards of it.

I weigh 200 pounds and I'm not worried that a single layer of this fabric would leave me on the ground. However, I wouldn't make a single layer hammock for myself using this fabric. It simply has too much stretch in it for my own personal comfort level. Nor do I like non-stretch materials. Like Goldilocks, I prefer something in between.

But this is just a personal preference thing. If I were you, I would make a single layer hammock and try it out. It's a pretty simple extra step to add another layer after the fact, if you find that it stretches too much your your liking.

Yes, it's the Magna ACU fabric. How does Knotty's design compare to the Ghost Hammock...pros and cons of each, ease of construction and weight?

I can let you know how stretchy the acu 1.1 is. I made a single layer last night. It haven't had the chance to use it yet.

You can check out the thread I started yesterday for the pix. As of a design I folded over all the edges and stitched them. Made a channel like knotty uses to thread some amsteel through and tighten. There is not much to it. I used roughly 11' of 1.1 acu nylon.
