A lot of people got from a group buy. I don't know the cost of it. What I have was donated to my scout troop but I am using it as a template and practice so that I CAN use it for the troop.

You said that you didn't set it up at the optimal distance, and you could not reach the RL. And i'm guessing you have an adjustable RL? If that's the case then you had already said what is happening. The hammock end were to close together making the sag greater thus you could not reach the RL. When you get to the optimal setup distance the RL should only be 2-2.5 feet from you. JMHO. Nice build though...welcome to the DIY clan!
    It's a hammock thing, you won't understand!

The wife no longer kicks me out of bed after she saw a hammock hanging in the dog house.

Sounds like the ridgeline was too tight, shortening the hammock and giving it a deeper lay...

Both those thought had crossed my mind. Luckily both are easy enough to do. The one thing I am waiting for is to
Be able to hang the hammock from trees that are at the right distance apart so that I can really tell If it is the ridge line or the hammock is too long. Thanks for the help

I think it would be more accurate to see if the RL is too long or too short, the hammock itself is the right length. Just saying...

Thanks Raiffnuke your a lot of help. Lol.
I should've asked the question. Before hand but what is best way to approximate the amount of material/fabric you need for a hammock.

That is a subjective question. Some people like a longer hammock, some shorter. But I think the average is roughly 4ft longer than you are tall, plus you seam allowances. YMMV.

Nice hammock! Don't fret about those stitches; their job is to hold things together, not to look good. (At least, that's what I tell people about my stitches).

Well last night I spey some time shortening my hammock. I took it apart, spread it out and measured it. All said and done it was 10' 9". So I measured out 9" or so and cut that off and reseamed everything. Now I have it do that the srl is closer to where it should be and I haven't really lost anything on the lay. Very happy with it. And I also knocked of a whopping .7oz. Lol.

Well, that was one way to fix it! I am glad it worked for you and is comfortable. Enjoy the hang!
