Would this bag work OK as a TQ?

    Hi All,

Noob here and I'm trying to find a reasonable deal on a TQ or a bag I can use as a TQ. I noticed this in the golite clearance closet and wanted to get opinions. I was thinking that if I kept it unzipped most the way I could leave a footbox. The bag seems to be a pretty good shape to serve as a TQ. It is a little on the heavy side (650 down), but for $89 seems to be a pretty good deal. Thanks for your opinions!

In theory and in practice any sleeping bag works as a top quilt. However you would still need a pad or a UQ underneath you to keep your underside warm

But yes you could unzip it half way pull it over you and use it as a TQ

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

It works, but the zipper is kind of a PIA. The foot box is nice, though.

that would work. I have used bags in the past prior to getting a TQ. As noted before, the under insulation will be critical and keep in mind, a regular pad doesn't work all that well because it's so narrow. Might have to consider ordering some CCF and cutting to your specs.

I would spend a little more and go with the top quilt. It will be money well spent.
