    Hang spots near Columbia, SC

Hey all. I moved to Columbia, SC this past May, I and have even more recently discovered all that hammockforums has to offer. I'm fairly new to hammock camping, but I would love to dive deeper while in Columbia. Anybody familiar with any sweet hang spots in the area?

Burrell's Ford is another good place, hiking along the Chattooga River, lots of nice hanging spots. Just search Burrells Ford. It's located in the Sumter National Forest http://www.trails.com/topo.aspx?trailid=HGD069-038

I know of more spots in the Upstate near Greenville, but not down your way to much. The coast has some nice spots. I hope you enjoy the new location.

It'd be real cool to have a brand new feller show up at our event. There's gonna be about 20 folks so far that just love to help folks. Heck, you may even pick up some gear at the raffle. It's about an hour and a half from Columbia.

If you are just wanting to hang for a couple hours during the day to get things set up, i have went to Harbison State Forest and setup and tweaked there. I sometimes just go there to setup and watch the deers walk past. I have gotten them to walk past about 20 feet from me
There is a $5 (per car) a day parking fee or a $25 (per car) annual fee last time i was there. I had the annual fee tag, but it has expired so i am waiting til cooler weather before i get another one, it is one year from the month you purchase it.

Here is the website for Harbison State Forest:
    http://www.state.sc.us/forest/refharb.htm

They only allow organizations to camp overnight. But i was told you could setup during the day as long as you are out of the park when it closes. They have 4 campsites and a bunch of trails and geocaches.

Harbison is a nice park very close to Columbia. Even though it does not allow individual overnights, there are plenty of places you can get the solitude you want while you get your hammock setup just right so you can just vegitate.

There is also the Palmetto Trail. They have several campsites around. I know just outside of Columbia there is the Peak to Pomaria trail that has one close to the Pomaria side (there is a sotre at the trailhead with good burgers ).

    Captain Smiley-

That sounds like a blast. Unfortunately I won't be able to make that weekend though. Any future events?

Also, anyone have any experience hanging around lake murray?
