    I found this video useful

I am researching tarp setups after I experimented with a walmart blue tarp the other day in the rain.
Fireinmybones showed me his DIY tarp and I am going to try to make that soon. He was very generous with his time and advice.
While I was trolling along on youtube, I found this video. This one shows a group of hangers who are setting up for a very windy night. I had not seen a video with this many good ideas (double tarping, self adjusting prussik guy lines, etc) before so I thought I would draw your attention to it.
Thanks again to everyone at Hammockforums. Its like having an expert hammock hanger ready to teach me anything and it is only a few mouse clicks away.

Thanks for finding that video, great information, especially liked the idea of a small gear hammock.
So many trees, so little time!

Reaaaaalllyyyyyy like the prussiks for the guylines.

*grabs some cordage and heads outside...*

EDIT: It works beautifully... genius, as far as I'm concerned. To be fair, though, this is the first thing I've tried other than a fixed length of rope with a loop at each end and just pulling the stake and moving it to tension. Lol. Just to note, the smaller the loop, the better... probably. To a point anyway, as long as you can get it larks headed to the tarp. Guess I ought to try a taut line hitch next.

I use prussiks often in rescue work/training and I love them.
I have not used them yet in hammocking yet but I'm still new to this.
I have always taught that your prussik cordage should be of a smaller diameter than your main line (the line you are attaching the knot to) in order to assure a good grab.
I was making a set of whoopie slings for my son's hammock last night and it occured to me that that Amsteel is some slippery stuff and it might not respond well to a prussik knot. Does anyone following this thread prussik onto Amsteel and if you do what to you use? How about the smaller dyneema stuff? Do you prussik to that as well and what do you use?

Yeah, I used good ol' braided mason's line for the main line and the prussik and found it slipped under a good amount of pull, but I just added a fourth loop in the prussik and it grabs fine now. Suitable for guylines, anyway. And I also tried the taut line hitch last night, like I said I would, and ended up making four lines with prussiks on them. It's such a breeze tightening the line it's ridiculous. Literally just pull the loose end and release. A cinch to do with numb hands in thick gloves, even, I'd bet. Can't imagine it gets much easier, even with Line-Locs.

Last night was my first encounter with the prussik, and I can already tell it won't be the last. What a fantastically useful knot.

Try using a farrimond hitch. Even easier to do and undo ImageUploadedByTapatalk1344374619.693621.jpg

Looks like it functions similarly to a taut line hitch, no? If that is the case, it still requires one more "step" than the prussik method. Or maybe I just don't know what the heck I'm doing, lol. But when I used the taut line hitch, to actually get it taut I had to pull the line towards me (standing at the stake end) and use my other hand to push the knot up the line.
