Well, if her hammock fails, at least she has flotation devices on board already.

Then right next to it they showed a reality pic of the same ship and same pool from the same angle. Lordy what a difference. Thanks for pointing out your concerns...

Animal control.... I admit that I am somewhat overly sensitive about what some folks call "tongue-in-cheek humor". My post was intended to reflect two things... 1) if we are making a intentional effort to keep posts on topic and relevant to hammocks, I think we strayed dangerously close to be being able to substitute "motorcycle accessories" for "hammock accessories" which places the emphasis on the "accessories" rather than the hammocks. Secondly, I struggled for many years with an addiction to pornography (hear me out before you jump) and it has destroyed a good many friendships I have had. I am _NOT_ saying that anything that went on in this thread bordered on the pornographic. I am only saying it pushed some of my buttons and I have seen a conversations like this slide downhill really fast in some really ugly ways on other boards and venues.
Being the obnoxious, loud mouth bothersome busy body that I am... I spouted off.

take my post for whatever you think it is worth.... and carry on.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

The thread in itself is on-topic enough...much like talking about Hennessy's business practices and how it affects the hammocking community. Just keep the peace and keep it family-appropriate, pls.

Before starting this thread I contemplated the possibility that someone would be somehow be offended. But, I figured that if someone were somehow offended they'd stay off the thread, would not spend the time clicking the hyperlinks (which is why I did not display the pics themselves in the thread with the Insert Image tool) or reading all the funny puns that would surely follow. I figured that if consequent mammary gland puns got too racy then a website monitor would intervene to warn people to keep it cool. Seems pretty tame so far. But then again I used to work on a Forest Service fire fighting crew full of rednecks and was once counseled about the flavor of my jokes (the rednecks liked my jokes).

One intention was to point out the absurdity of using girly or he-man pics to sell hammocks, which to me, seems like a bizarre marketing strategy worthy of ridicule via double entendre. It seems a hammock's comfort, weight, sturdiness, good reputation and most of all, price would sell itself. I'm puzzled why those pics are on the ENO webpage. Not that I want ENO to take them down!

Well, I only saw one photo that could be considered racy, and I looked through them all. Where does a manufacturer cross the line? Have you ever saw HGTV? That could be considered porn by some--since when are all homeowning couples and the construction workers attractive and stylish? A little bit of fantasy there, and I'll guarantee most women get excited about it. Come to think of it, I'm even more pathetic and find myself lusting after new backpacking gear sometimes. That could be considered an addiction, it sure does cost me. I actually think that the use of attractive models to display the hammocks and accessories is beneficial. It makes it a lot more real and shows how things work, instead of a piece of fabric just hanging in the air. Look at clothing manufacturers, they use the good looking models to create an image, and we want to get the clothing so we can look like that. So I want to be that cool dude chilling out in the hammock by the waterfall, but I had better keep my shirt on, so as not to be too unpleasant. I wish more manufacturers would hire models to show their wares, and I'm sure some of the cottage folks wish they could budget just that. Sure, you can get some dirty, bummy hiker to do it, but that's sort of a turn off to some, such as myself. I'm also equal opportunity--the women folks want to see a stud in their hammock and the guys want to see a pretty gal. Not to mention the fact that seeing different shapes and sizes of models helps us judge if something will work for us. So I say more hammocking hunks for the gals (or however you swing) and more hammocking hotties for the rest of us!

If I sounded offended then I did not express myself very well. The last couple of posts have been excellent in my opinion. It is helpful to see models in the gear. No question about that. If any one interpreted my post as "playing moderator" I apologize. That was not my intent. I was merely expressing a personal concern and observation, worthy of whatever reaction someone gave to it.

I also wish there were more reference points to gauge size and depth in terms of a hammock ad. That's one of the things I like about the gallery shots, the ability to place that kind of information in perspective.

You know, we tolerate the edges of the 'middle' here well, usually. We've been able to have some religious discussions, which make at least as many of us uncomfortable as the racy stuff does others. I read those threads, and when I get uncomfortable, I click away. I don't jump in to demand or shake my finger at those who enjoy posting on them that 'I' am comfortable so the topic needs to stop. I try to read things that push a few of my buttons occasionally just to learn things outside of my normal orbit.

I'll bet Stephenson's Warmlite site would give some folks here a heart attack (and not just because of the prices).
