I'm just curious as to the reason for cat cuts. Why the curved edge? Does it make a more stable tarp or something? Or is it just for looks?
Cat cuts keep the edges of the tarp from flapping and/or humming in the breeze. Due to the nature of fabric, straight edges are unstable. The stretchier the fabric, the worse this condition becomes. Therefore deeper cat cuts are required on lightweight silnylon than on spinnaker or cuben, with heavier PU coated nylon somewhere in between.
