    Sequoia, Kings Canyon hike

Last week I got to fly out and join MountainManMike and his friend Dan on a trip in Kings Canyon. Thank you guys it was great meeting and hiking with you.

I did a little pre-hike sightseeing in the parks before MMMike picked me up for the ride to the hike TH at Onion Valley. From there we hiked over to Rae Lakes with stops at Flower Lake, Charlotte Lake, Rae Lake, Kearsarge Lake, and Matlock Lake. Doing a out and back hike meant climbing both Kearsarge and Glen Passes twice so we got a pretty good work out.

On the drive back we took the scenic route with a stop to check out Mono Lake and great views driving thru Yosemite NP.

Here is a link to my pictures.

Thanks for sharing your trip, the pics were great. Don't think I've got straps big enough for those trees.

I had to use double straps on one side the first night at Flower Lake. Never would of made it around the Redwoods!

Sequoia: where you might need longer tree straps... hehe

Many years ago (oh,37 years or so) I did almost that exact hike. We simply crossed the sierras from the Onion Valley side and came out the west side. When we did that hike there had been a fire just 3 weeks earlier. At one point we were hiking through miles of ash and burnt trees (some still on fire).

Is there any sign of the fire now 3 decades later?

I didn't see any. Of course living back east where trees are everywhere I don't see how fires could make it anywhere out there.
