I'm looking for some suggestions for to go hiking/camping this weekend somewhere with in an hour or two of central Maryland. I do not know the area well at all and am open to any and all suggestions. I am going to go bug the guys are REI as well.

I vote all over off of the CNO the're are islands to hike to or spots right off the toe path neer Knoxville also some spots off of 67
Quick and easy is the AT. Nice shelters well spaced out along the way. I hear it can be a bit less "isolated" in certain areas on the weekends though.
Thank you guys. Also the guy at REI really talked up the George Washington National Forest as well as Shenandoah NP.

I have used this site to plan a lot of my trips in this area as well as up into Pa’s mid sate trails.
