I have been using the plastic ones as tarp tie downs for over 2 years now. I camp on average of about 45 days a year, so figure about 85-90 days of uv/outdoor exposure. Never had one break. But the real stress on the ties downs is not particularly significant. I used the small aluminum ones on the ridge (4 grams each).

My only complaint is that, though they grip fine on 2.2mm Zing-it, they are too large to hold teh 1.75mm Zing-it. And of course, I just switched from 2.2mm to 1.75mm. I now have a set of Dutch Tarp Flyz on order, which are made for 1.75mm line.

It's good enough, and you don't need a prusik when using it this way. I have used them this way with no problems.

The Nite Ize cord is 2.4mm I believe. I agree with the others, the plastic ones are plenty strong. I don't understand why you'd want to remove the guy lines each time. Check out my vid on how I wrap them up and pack it. Makes setup a breeze but to each his own I guess.

the guy lines are attached, and will stay that way. i'm just going to swap out the cord i have now for the nite ize. i have the tadpole tarp, and it has pockets on all four corners to put the line in. no removal of guy lines needed, and also easy storage.

If you are looking for the NiteIze line, they have it at Sports Authority. I was up there over the weekend. For $9.99 they have four (4) 8' lengths, each with a plastic figure9, or if you just want the line only, they have 50' for $11.49. I recall both products were in stock.
