there are shorter hikes on MRT side to off trail locations, 3-4 miles may be a more doable distance with 20+

Paul has a good point. I don't know if it specifically applies to this area, but typically group size is limited to 9 or less in the back country. So in the interest of being good stewards to the outdoors our impact/footprint should be considered in this case.
    Good luck,

We are looking at a pretty solid 20 right now. The drive in for Friday night is a given, but I think it could be up to the groups (I think it makes sense to break up into some smaller groups for either Sat overnight or day hikes) for the rest of the weekend.

I liked the little out and back we did 2 years ago. It's an area, either up on the hill or down in the pine grove, that can accomodate quite a few people. It also has the creek right there so water isn't an issue.

Across the creek has a site that will accomodate a group of 10-12 also... It was about a 3 mile hike in to that spot but is on the NCT side so not along river....

When I did this loop in july (begining) I set up camp. Just before # 3 + 4. There were some good spots right before that. Guessing only a few miles in. One site was basic site for 2 or 3 but the next one to it could hold a few more easily. But that's just what I can remember and it was right on the river. Fwiw.

I would suggest that if the group wanted to stay together we should then head over to the Eddington Creek area. People could camp by the power lines on the hill, down in the valley just to the south of the hill, and across Eddington Creek in the Pine Plantation. We could then all be in the realtive same area. And some, if so inclined, could park at the Marilla Trailhead and hike in from there (about 45 minutes). Just my two cents.

You can access Eddington Creek from both the Hill top site, the valley to the south and the Pine Plantation.

I didn't consider the group size, I was thinking more like we did on NMI in which we broke up it to a smaller group. I'm game for any of the areas mentioned...

Another option is Friday at Seaton Creek, then those that want a hike can hump it down to OUTLAW and those that want a shorter hike can drive to Slagle Creek TH and join us at OUTLAW... Great Site...Great Trees... Great Night Sky, weather allowing... Great Fire Pit...
