    Does this make sense?

I have a BB 1.1 double and I'm thinking about getting the travel sock. But I think using a sock with the BB would make the shelf practically useless and I'd have all of the tie outs hanging loose within the sock. So would it make more sense to get a traveller to use with the sock? That way there are no tie outs to worry about.

It's kind of a hang your own hammock thing, but not owning either I can only speak with my own experience. The simpler a setup is, the better. I say go with the traveller, its just as great as the blackbird (so I've heard) and it wont disappoint you. Besides, you wont need the net if you have a sock around a BB. It's just extra "stuff" you would be carrying anyways...

    WB BB shelf

a lot of us who use BBs never tie out the shelf and it still serves well to store lightweight gear. A sock, depending on how tight it fits shouldn't be a problem.

I've taken the tie outs off of all my hammocks, just a preference thing. I still use the shelf on my BB, my head is lower than the items on the shelf(which is now more of a pocket than a shelf)
I guess its true if using winter sock, maybe need for bugnet is obsolete.
But bug net will trap some air and maybe give more range of 'micro climate' using sock and bugnet together. Not speaking from experience. But hopefully after this winter i will be.

Why not get the sock to start with and see how you like it on the BB? If you don't like it, you could always get the traveler and use it as your cold weather hammock.

That's exactly what I did. After reading some threads I just decided to go with the sock and try it on the bb. Like jrprince and fish say, I can always order the traveller later. Thanks for all the replies.

Good choice, I use a Lite Owl in cold months and the BB in buggy weather. I often leave my shelf untethered and it functions fine.
