    whats wrong with my whoopies?

i made some whoopie slings (amsteel blue) to replace the suspension on my hammock. they worked great for a couple nights. now when i get into my hammock the slings loosen up and gently put my but on the ground.
they are 6 foot whoopies with about a foot long burrey. any ideas folks
also i didnt remove any of the threads from the inside of the slings. to make it easier to splice. and i also made sure to "milk" the burrey before i got in.

Maybe a pic would help. When you say you didn't remove any threads, do you mean you didn't pull out half the threads and cut off to taper the end? That's really only important in the locked brummel type fixed loop. It keeps the change in line thickness from being abrubt and derating the strength at that point. Are you using 7/64 or 1/8? Are you milking the adustable end toward the fixed loop? As long as there is tension being applied the main line should restrict and hold the line inside your bury on your adjustable end.

When you load the brummel end, what line does it pull on? In bury line or the outter sheath around the bury?

The bury line should only be loaded from the adjustable whoopie end. The brummel line should only load the outer sheath of the whoopie, and not the bury itself.

A 12" bury should be fine. Most of mine are sub-12".

I only use a 10" bury on the adjustable sides of my 7/64 DIY's and have never had any problems with them loosening. Again, pics might help...

Sorry I'm not sure how to explain it further. If you put a load on the brummel/fixed eye end and it tensions the line inside the bury, you whoopie is made backwards. If it loads the outside line causing it to constrict on the bury, you did it right.

Tapers and milking the bury has nothing to do with your the whoopie slipping. Taper and milking only apply to the fixed eye.
