    Jacks R Better

Anyone have experience with Jacks R Better underquilts? I am investigating a purchase of the Mt Washington 0* rated quilt for a Henessy Explorer Ultralight...

Will it work properly with this hammock?

Will it suffice in 0* F weather?

I am tossed between Jacks and the incubator...want to order this week so feedback is appreciated...

Of course. They pretty much invented the category. And they're still one of the few that offers same/next day shipping.

Yes, it will work fine on a HHEUL. It's rated for 0F, and I've seen some take it lower than that.

It is a sweet piece of equipment. It does not get all that cold where I am at, so I have only been able to test it at 10F. But I was plenty warm at that temp.

90% of my use of it has been on the JRB BMBH, or bridge hammock, on which it is seemingly a custom fit and very fool proof. Never any worries about some of the challenges you often read about here trying to get an UQ to work at the expected temps. It just always works by simply attaching it per manufacturer directions.

I have never used it on my HH Explorer UL, I always use my HH Super Shelter on that hammock. But I have used it one time on my WB Black Bird. It took a lot more tweaking to get things adjusted so that all would stay in place especially around the foot box area. But once I got the suspension dialed in, it gave me a very toasty night at 18F with a lot of wind but poor tarp coverage, so not bad.

I think the big difference between this quilt ( unless it has been changed recently) and some others is the suspension. The MW has a relatively short elastic suspension that attaches from each end ( left and right side) of the UQ to the hammock end knots. Many other UQs have a suspension that runs through side channels on the UQ, allowing you to move the UQ up or down after it has been adjusted/tightened. I actually find the JRB MW suspension - simply pulling from both ends - to work a little better for me. But, you must make sure it is where you want it relative to where you are going to be in the hammock, because you can't move it once you are in.

I have a few JRB quilts and they are top-shelf.

I only use two of them as underquilts (the others are pretty much dedicated top quilts) and one of them is the Mt. Washington. Excellent full-length quilt!

    Greetings

I have an Incubator from Hammock Gear and can't speak highly enough about it. If you are in no hurry to receive your quilt then consider them an option as it will be a more cost effective solution.

I have no experience with the Jacks R Better quilts, but from all accounts they are top notch gear with the advantage of same or next day shipping due to having inventory on hand.

    Cheers

Well, I was going to say: "prepare to be warm" but then I realized you are in Ontario, Canada, so you may actually push it to it's limits. Will you be camping in winter? Any way, great choice!
