Need suggestions on rigging a new tarp

Ok, so tarp rigging has never been my strong suit, and I dont like knots. im lazy, and weight really isnt a concern so things like dutch gear etc are fine by me.

I have on the way (im so excited too BTW) a UGQ WD12, with my custom Zombie specs.

I need to figure out rigging. on all my tarps to date ive used the dutch 2 line system (tarp to tree, tarp to tree using flies or a combination of flies and something else...i forget) and thats served me well, but Ive got 2 concerns with this new tarp:

issue 1: i would like for it to be easy as possible to setup, which includes adjusting side to side. the current setup needs me to loosen one side, which usually drops down the tree some, in order to move it over.

issue 2: with the 2 line setup, all the pressure is on the tie outs on the RL. in my misguided head, that leads me to believe that this method would lend itself to undue wear and tear. id like to minimize that

my needs are, well, specific. i want the system to be able to give me headroom and minimize stooping when its up but weather is good.

let me know some things i can do to make setup a breeze, line and hardware!

For issue 1, I'd suggest a pair of Dutch's tarp flies, and prussics on the tarp RL tieouts. As for issue 2, using a continious ridgline over your tarp would likely be the least "damaging" method to string it up.

Perhaps a pole mod would help to open the tarp up and give you the added space you are wanting as well. I use either Zing-It or Lash-It for my tarp lines. $25 gets a 150ft spool from Redden delivered to the house.

The two-line system seems more complex than a continuous ridgeline. I was violently opposed to the continuous ridgeline in general and specifically running the ridgeline under the tarp due to concerns about wear. However, I overcame my own prejudices and tried it.

My system is Dutch Hook on one end, tarp attached with soft shackle prusiks to the 1.75 mm ridgeline, and a Dutch Tarp Flyz on the other end. It really doesn't get any easier than that: swing line around tree and attach Dutch hook to Zing-it, then go to other end and position Dutch Tarp Flyz appropriately then tighten. Finally, center tarp over hammock and between trees using soft shackle prusiks.

At Fall MAHHA 2012 I looked at several tarp suspensions and didn't find anything that jumped out at me as superior, quicker, more convenient or more reliable than the Dutch system. It's dirt simple. I've seen no wear on the HG CF 4S tarp from running the ridgeline underneath it.

My instincts and intellect tell me a 2-line system is better. However, in practice, I find the single line suspension to be vastly superior.

I use the two line system. On each end I have a prusik on the tarp and line going to the tree that is secured with a Dutch hook. Its basically the same thing as a CRL without the part that goes under or over the tarp. With tarp sleeves it's pretty simple and it works for me.

neat idea, but you still have to move a side at a time, which im trying to eliminate.

My latest way is a continuous RL. Line under the tarp, thru the hole in the buckle then tie on a mini Dutch biner, which hooks onto the buckle. This end gets wrapped around the tree first. The other end has a Tarp Flyz hooked to the buckle. The line goes thru the buckle, around the tree and then wrapped around the Flyz. No knots in the field. Quick. Adjustable. Extra line from shorter distances can be loosely balled up and put tween tarp and ridgeline, out of the way.

Don't you have to move one side at a time with a CRL as well?

I use THIS method (version A) but instead of a prusik I use a mini UCR with a mini beiner ( a trick I picked up from Gargoyle). This method is also illustrated in the ultimate hang, pg 74 IIRC.
This works great you can put the tarp over or under the RL and once it's hanging you just pull on one end and it slides back and forth. It's sorta like a clothsline pully system. The tree takes a bit of wear when you do the slide trick but its not too bad.
    Good luck,

Yes but you're only moving the tarp, not the ridgeline. Set the ridgeline and slide tarp to center over the hammock.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!
