    First Hang

Bob and I purchased ENO hammocks a DN for him and a SN for me. We camped at Joe Pool and found that we awoke without being stiff as we had predicted. We did purchase and use the bug nets as West Nile Virus has been bad in this area this year.
I went out early Sunday morning for a walk. Came back and snuggled back in for one last snooze before packing up. Woke up to a scorpion walking along my arm. I had forgotten to zip the bug net up while I walked ...but what would attract a scorpion to a hammock?
Thanks to all here and a special thanks to DOS and to LONER for indirecty talking us into trying hammock camping though their AT journals.
    GOAL: AT thru-hike after retirement.

Perhaps the scorpian just wanted to get off that hard ground as well.

Congratulations on a successful first hang.

I wonder if Permethrin works on scorpions. Might be a good idea to spray the gear.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!

Sounds like you have the hang of it - a little walk followed by a nap

    Beverly,
I reckon that scorpian was doing what it does best...lookin' for food and checking out the habitat. Next time keep it zipped and it will keep ALL unwanted guests out! Are you lying diagonally or what's often refered to as the "Brazilion-way"? I won't presume to tell you what you think will be a comfortable position, but I believe you will ultimately be most comfortable by getting near flat with your head up a bit for comfort. Read a lot here and you will greatly benefit from all of the experience!
Hang in there, as it only get's better as you get more experienced!

Scorpions get everywhere, as do many other biters and stringers. Two things will really help, never let you net touch the ground and put 6 inch plastic funnels on each of your suspension lines. It takes a little doing but the bugs crawl down the rope and get stuck in the funnel. I'll try and find you a picture.
    Carpe noctem!!
