Planning on a 35 mile 3 day backpacking trip next week and taking my ENO DN. Trying to decide on bottom insulation. I currently have a thermarest pro lite shorty at 11 oz. and a luxury map self inflating at 4.5 lbs! I was going to either get a ENO hotspot or a z lite sol. Temps should be around 40. Trying to work towards lightweight. I've already converted my mummy bag to a 30* top bag. No underquilt in the budget right now.
I would lean towards closed cell foam with wings or you could do no sew version of a poncho liner under quilt (PLUQ) quick and easy should get you there.
The wider the better. PLUQ would not get him there I dont think, unless you are a very warm sleeper. I love my PLUQ but 40 is the bottom end for me and that is getting by not toasty warm. You could bring the thermarest and cut up a closed cell to place sideways under your head and shoulders, forming a T to cover your shoulders.

Get some el cheapo ccf, as was said wider is better, you need to wrap your hips/shoulders. Bring your shorty for your torso/butt.
Yep, I have that same TR shorty and it won't be warm or wide enough. I would get the JRB torso pad which is thin and pliable enough to be of good use in a hammock, and supplement it with the TR. Getting a thicker CCF by itself would work, but its such a pain in a hammock, whereas the JRB pad is both flexible and tacky and stays put better.
ENO Hotspot worked for me this summer.
