I was thinking this as well, and definately agree some marking method will be needed to ensure a correct hang.
You could also use the tail of the "whoopie" to tie the ring in place when you take it down, but you'll probably still want markings. I was thinking of using a small safety pin, so you could easily change the marker location.

Also, for reference, I used 35 ft of amsteel for that rig. With a 8.5 ft ridge line.

Did you know DutchWare has specialty items if you ask?
Why mention? because I just ordered 2 x 10 foot amsteel with a dead eye in each end.
I'll connect the dead eye to a Dutch Whoopie hook on 6 inch continuous that is larks headed to the gathered end....the free end of the amsteel will go through the single ring, to the tree hugger and back to the ring for the wrap.
This weekend on both nights backpacking I had to use MSHs because my stealthy trees were too close in. This will save another 12 inches (6 inches on each side) in the bury of the amsteel.
Now for those of us who don't use an adjustable ridgeline on our hammocks? In winter I'm not carrying a bugnet; I can see how a lot of use the ARL to gauge proper hang.......so it makes sense to mark your amsteel where you want the ring to get the same hang each time.

I have no idea how I missed this. Has anyone done a video yet?? Only half a dozen people have asked for one. It sure would be nice if one of our vid specialists could throw something together.

How the h*#l did I miss out on this thread and this suspension setup. This is genious as all get out,,and just did it to my BMBH UL and works fantastic. I almost threw those 4 assender rings away 2 yrs ago when I decided they were a bad buy,,but threw them in a gear tupperware tub and found them tonite and redid my suspension using this method. Awesome thinking outthere people!!!! Simply pure easy setup. I like this very much! Keep the ideas coming is all I can say. And yeah,,head has been in the tree stand deer hunting mode last couple of months.

Hey DivaB, I'm planning on doing some experiments that try to quantify effectiveness as a function of ring and cord diameters, and put together a video on it. Most likely the week after Christmas.

The quant in me wants to do a full up statistical factor analysis. My better sense and desire to have it watched will probably squash that impulse.

...but the R statistical analysis package is standing by...
