So I haven't been home for a couple days, but when I left we only had about 2 inches of snow. Hopeing we get some more before the hang. AS it gets closer I will keep a tally here of how much we have so everyone can plan for it.

    Can't wait till its here.

Are meeting at the parking lot at a particular time? Or at a particular camp site?

    Howdy all,

Can't make the winter trip, scheduling conflict. I would really like to be there. I live near Ashland, am a newbie when it comes to hammock camping but am eager to learn more (I want to use it for bikepacking and backpacking). Is there going to be a spring hang? I'll be checking on this forum to see if one is in the works but just wanted to see if a trip is on the backburner.

Hikingdad and I did a little New Years Eve hang in the Black River State Forest and a few things came up that I would like to pass along. Due to the shallow snow, I would recommend leaving your snow stakes at home and instead pick up a cheap pack of spikes like these.

    http://www.menards.com/main/tools-ha...100-c-8759.htm

They will not bend or break easily and can be pounded into frozen ground.

For water, I will be bringing a large 2 gallon aluminum pot for melting snow. On average, the snow to water ratio is about 10:1 but in very dry conditions like Hikingdad and I experienced this past weekend the ratio was more likely >15:1. This means roughly 15 inches of snow melted produced only 1 inch of water.

I am really hoping to get to this hang. I haven't been able to even open the forum in forever and it has been almost two months since my last hammock night. Ryan, however, spent 22 nights in 2012 in his hammock, I only had 15. I got to up my woods time.

Thanks for putting it on Cry, hope to see you all there.
