    condensation problem

Been hanging last few nights , high 20s f Problem is heavy condensation on top of overquilt! not just damp but wet has to be from my breath! only on area of being wet is on my chest. I sleep warm, no other dampness in or on quilt but top section is wet! tarp hung 2' above hammock and opened porch style. Not a problem near home but gonna be doing a 3 week hike in ADK and this will be real problem! any idea"s to keep dry?(besides stop breathing)

i sometimes get frost on my topquilt when i only have a tarp above me in freezing conditions, even just adding a bug net seems to help with that.

Shug has shown a frost bib he ties to the ridgeline and around his neck that deflects your breath - that might be something to look into.

Try using a rebreather mask in cold weather....You can even have your head under the quilt with no condensation using one of these...Search for info, as this is an old subject that comes up this time of year.

PS... Your lungs will like it too as your moisture is rebreathed in the warmed air, eliminating dry mouth and the shock of breathing cold air.

The only rebreathers I know of are SCUBA and 02 applications... what do you speak of?

The only thing that comes to my mind is a nonrebreather oxygen mask with the bag and valves torn off. I would just be afraid of not getting enough exchange of air and suffocating with something like that. I can understand the idea of the moisture mainly be trapped in the mask and thus helping to humidify the next breath though.

As a medic, I would suggest no one uses a non-rebreather...
