    no sew backpack

so i am toying with the idea of making a no sew backpack out of nylon. i also have some questions.

    1. what should i use a fusion tape?

    2. any special technique that i should use while fusing?

    3. the straps are problematic. how could i accomplish this?

thanks in advance for your help guys. you are all geniuses here.

Hem tape, stitch witchery, glues, etc.

In my personal opinion, Those items will hold up for a bit, but ultimately fail.

For some seams you will have to sew. A Stitching Awl (Speedy-stitcher) is good for heavier materials. You can "make" a mini-speedy stitcher and use heavy-duty thread. I find this easier than hand-sewing the normal way for really heavy things--like straps, etc...

Here's a thread that talks about it...

Find a youtube video that shows how to use a stitching awl.

I have an idea for a no sew backpack. Get a piece of ripstop, tie 2 ropes to opposite corners, then stuff full of gear, and finally tie it closed.

There are a few packs out there from the larger mfg'ers that use heat sealable nylon or similar. I think they actually use RF welding, but the end result is the same. You could try that route. Would make for a mostly waterproof pack and much more durable as well.

    How about a Roycroft backpack?
