Sorry to hear about that. Was the pole perpendicular to the center line of the hammocks? If it got angled I could see it snapping. Maybe we should all start videoing our test hangs so we can watch failures in slow motion to better understand what happened.

Great thread. I also had time to check irt out some at the BSF hang. It worked well and looked great. I am sure that the spreader bars would have to get beefier as the weight goes up for the lighter of the two hammocker's.

Detail man have you used your set up with someone that weighed more than you yet? I wonder how it might do especially if you did not have equal length hammocks. If it does well then you know the aluminum poles are definitely stronger than the carbon ones that were tested.

Also I wonder if a larger person turning might not cause quite a bit more swing than D2 does?

Great set up though for kids and othe way you are using it, and maybe we will find out for two adults as well.

The carbon poles I used were never originally bought with this purpose in mind. I'm sure that I can find some carbon poles that will work no problem. What size were the aluminum poles you used again DetailMan. I'm going to try and order some bigger ones tomorrow

There is a mini spreader bar that uses the same concept for short hammocks that makes them lay more like a big hammock doing something similar...

And whatever the weight penalty it wouldn't be as much as a second tarp...
Live, Laugh, Love, if that doesn't work. Load, Aim and Fire, repeat as necessary...

or a penalty for not being close to the wife If you can get Her to Go along

with My Luck I would be about 10 ft away and an animal would go under Her she screams I fall out of my hammock
to rescue her and I break my arm

I would carry 2lbs more not to have this happen

Love this. I have to remember this whenever I can convince my wife to try hammock camping with me.

Re: UL Spreader Bars for Tandem Hanging

I know this is for a two tree hang. Has anyone tried a three tree and and a piece of amsteel to pull the heads of the hammock closer?

sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but I have a few questions.

    1. Have you guys that have tried this learned anything new about these setups? such as breaking point material selection ( aluminum, carbon fiber, or fiberglass)

2 any issues with the end pieces after long term use.

    3. any other items repurposed to this use.

    4. if there has been any issues so far with these setup what measure were made for future failures if any.

I am about to order the material to make these for my family and just trying to learn from the mistakes that might have been made or issues that might have came up since this was made and used.
