Oh, also... While my own smoker does not lend itself to transport, I'd be happy to smoke some butts, pull the pork, and bring 'em down to share. I have 2 types of slaw, one classic and one that si a bit more adventurous - it has the occasional golden raisin and thinly sliced fennel.

Dagnabbit, I'm getting the itch to smoke some pork tomorrow!!

Interested. Falls is a quick and easy trip and camp there often. But my schedule doesn't allow a commitment that far in advance. Will keep my eye on the calendar.

I think a raffle is a great idea, but it doesn't need to remain the domain of our beloved cottage vendors. I am on a shoestring budget, personally, so I make as much of my own gear as I can. I'd be happy to make and donate some hammocks for raffle, for instance, or perhaps some pillows or amsteel things and so on. Lots of folks make stoves, stands, tarps, etc. Many people also have gear that they aren't using but don't want to go through the hassle of listing, selling, and shipping.

So perhaps a minimum fee would apply to all, in order to ensure that the facilities are paid for. A raffle of DIY and used gear could then defray food costs for those who are cooking.

I was at MAHHA a few weeks ago, and there was way more $$ from the raffle than was needed for the event costs, so I wouldn't think that funding would be a problem given the natural generosity of our group.
I've already committed to making a nylon taffeta hammock w/ suspension for a raffle. We could also add a Swap Meet" of gear if there is enough interest.

I am interested as well. I have put it on the calendar and will see if will work out closer to it. I would love to be able to bring my whole family and either attempt to hang with the kids or at least bring a tent for Mrs. and youngest hanger 2 be. Do you know if there would be a room at the group site for others? (tent People) Trying to convert them.

I like the minimum fee and then let people buy raffle tickets to raise some money for the other costs. food etc.

I'd say that group site can hold more hangers than campers allowed per site. Lots of good trees with plenty of room to spread out for those who like a little more privacy when they sleep.

The amount of food which was provided at the potluck was also way over the top with plenty of leftovers going home. I cooked about 3 gallons of black bean soup and served out every drop, with some folks wanting third servings!

I think the 'Smoked Butt Hang' is going to become an instant classic, especially given the prime location. I can't wait!
I'm liking the idea of the minimal fee to cover facility costs and then having a small raffle/swap meet of homemade DIYed gear to help with food costs.

With everyone offering to bring the pork think I'm gonna have to find something else to bring for the meal. Talk about a good problem to have.

And I have to admit, that while I'm not normally a big slaw person, I am intrigued by your recipe there.

I'm sure I've got a few more than a few odds and ends projects lying around the house tha tmy wife wouldn't mind seeing leave and I can't think of a better way than a swap meet with folks who would find it all as interesting as I do.

There is plenty of room for a few tents, assuming the hangers don't claim the "flat" spots first. If my wife & daughter decide to join in the festivities they will likely be staying in a tent as well as they just don't get it.

If i make it, I have a Chargriller with a side burner box. If I don't make, my house is only 15 miles to the campground, arrangements might be possible to drop the cooker off. A buddy is make an Ugly Drum Smoker, They are a little less labor intensive. Pork shoulders are readily available at the BJ's near Triangle Town Center Mall - US 1 and 540. Since many folks are talking Pork, Walmart carries Packer Cut Beef Brisket. That's what I'll cook. 1 Packers Cut and Two Shoulders will fit on my smoker.

    Paddling

For those interested in paddling around the lake a bit and either don't own or prefer not to transport their watercraft there are a couple of places to rent kayaks and canoes in the area.

    Paddle Creek

    Frog Hollow Outdoors

If one was inclined want to paddle the length of the lake I would suggest renting from Paddle Creek as they are located by the dam and you could leave a vehicle in the lower dam parking lot so that you could leave straight from there after a nice day paddle.

I have same grill, minus the side burner box. Of course I'd love to pickup the burner box for better temp control when smoking, but I've managed to pull some quite good meat off mine as is. Just takes a bit for diligence on my part to keep things just right in the box.

too early to commit, but adding this one to my "Want to attend" list.
This one has the potential to become an annual event imho ;-)

Funding through any of the Poll suggestions is OK for me.
    PS: Well done 1st Post!

I'll have to look at my calendar as the spring gets a little closer. But nothing like combining hanging with some good BBQ. Mmmmmm. Getting hungry just thinking about smoked meat.
