    RE: blackbird and underquilt access

I'm waiting for a new BB and happened to see a post a while back that caused me to have a question. I've always either used a separate bug net or no net, but somewhere someone mentioned that it was harder to access/position an underquilt with the BB, which makes sense because of the netting. I hadn't even considered this before buying and since I don't have it yet, can't check for myself. I know it's a very popular hammock, so I'm guessing it can't be that big an issue. Thoughts from those that own one?

It is a little bit harder to adjust, but if you reach over before you zip up the bugnet, it's not too hard. Just make sure your feet slip under the suspension. The quilt is less likely to shift if you take that precaution. A few well placed Dutch quilt hooks solve everything!

Love my BB and haven't really had any issues with trying to adjust the uq while laying in the hammock.

Not really any huge issues with it. Had the UQ slip one night but just made things more interesting!

Just grab through the netting, its tough enough to be man handled. Check out Shugs how to video on Underquilts. He demonstrates grabbing the underquilt thru the netting to move it around.

Yip, grabbing it through the netting or reaching over before you even zip it up work well enough with the Blackbird.

I find that once I dial it in the first few times, though, I know right where i need it and don't need to worry about adjusting it much after getting in and doing any initial adjustments.

Don't worry about it - the BB is AWESOME.

I've found that I rarely need to adjust my AHE New River UQ with my WBBB. If I do, the only adjustment it needs is just to pull it up more over my left shoulder (more for "insurance" needs than anything) and can be accomplished by just unzipping the zipper a bit, reaching out, and pulling it up.

===> Exactly my experieince with the New River, as well. Generally no issues, but if the left shoulder gets chiiled due to a more extreme diagonal lie, then a little opening with the zipper, and a little tug, solves it.

I make sure the WBBB is down in the UQ. Then just adjust out the zipper side. I did add some Dutch UQ hooks and now just hook the one up by my shoulder. Works just great, doesn't move once I'm in it.
