Just got my AHE cinch buckle kit

I have a question about connecting to a hammock. I have a Yukon outfitters double hammock which has a pretty thick rope run through each end channel and has a hook attached. With this new cinch buckle kit it comes with loop of some type of rope sewn to the cinch buckles. Do I just attach the hook to the loop or should I larks head it to the hammock and remove the hook? Also will the loop last without any type of protection between it and the buckles?
    Thanks in advance
    Ed

This is a pretty common modification to lighten the hammock. Remove the stock rope from the end channels of the hammock. Feed the amsteel loop from AHE through the end channels and girth hitch it i.e. feed the buckles through the loop that has gone through the end channels. The amsteel will be fine on the cinch buckles. The edges on the cinch buckles are typically smoothed to prevent undo abrasion.

Yep. I've changed out the stock suspension on several hammocks to the AHE cinch buckles. It's a pretty simple thing to do, just takes a few minutes to feed the chain link through the channel. I love this suspension.....very easy to use and adjust.

Done, I cannot believe that the buckles being so small and light will hold my 200 lb butt. Just fed them through and cannot wait to try this set up out, but we are expecting some snow from tonight to Saturday. This will force me to try to DIY a UQ with an old sleeping bag
    Thanks again

Mine have held me and my wife in the same hammock no problem (400+lbs). I'm presently 250lbs but used to be over 300lbs. Have fun!

The buckles have been tested to the point of the webbing breaking....at over 1000 pounds. They will hold you just be sure that the webbing is laid through flat and the buckles are lined up with each other. Do not add a back up knot as it can twist the webbing in the buckles and cause failure. Enjoy.

Thanks I was going to add a back up knot because I thought it would be safer but the buckles seem pretty tight compared to rings

They were made specifically so that the back up knot is not needed.

I can vouch for that ... you don't need any kind of back up knot ... those bad boys lock down tighter than a Scottish wallet

How much do those AHE cinch buckles weigh? Thanks.
