    Uwharrie Trails & Covservancy

While up in Uwharrie the last couple of nights one of the members of the above group (Mtn Bike) was informing folks on plans for the Uwharrie Trail.

The plan is to run the UT north from the Northern Trail Head ( Jumping Off Rock ) to the Birkhead Trail. The first mile or so north has been blazed already.

The plan is to make the UT somewhere around 50 miles.

They have a survey for bikers and hikers at the site.

    Pete,
The plan is to recreate the original Uwharrie Trail. Before it was designated a "National Trail" several local land owners allowed passage through their property. In the 70's and part of the 80's the UT started on Tot Hill Farm Road near Asheboro and terminated at the present 24/27 trailhead.

    Thanks for the Link AKAPete!

If anyone wants to help blaze those trails they could consider joining the Uwharrie Trail Club http://www.uwharrietrailclub.org/index.php .

I had a great time helping to re-blaze the northmost end of the Birkhead trail this fall and more trail work is being planned for 2013.

Thats what the guy was explaining. Goggling U T extension yields two state purchases of land.

I haven't seen anything "official" on it yet but I am wondering what the trail use rules will be for the middle part.

I like the more open rules of the National Forest Lands on the North and South but was getting the impression that the middle will be a mix of State Forest Land and some private land use agreements.
