    Climasheild or insultex for UQ?

Hello all, just wondering witch material would be better for a DIY Underquilt, Insultex, or Climasheild? (If Climasheild, how many ounces?) Also, what temperatures would these be good for?

5 oz CS should be good to 30 degree, 2.5oz to around 40 and IX depends on how many layers and how well the quilt is put together. I have a two layer IX quilt that will get me into the high 30's. Most people use three layers and seem to be good into the 20's. IX doesn't pack very small but it is pretty light.

5 oz Climasheild gets my vote over any number of IX layers. IX requires a "perfect " fit.

Most of us on the fourms use down. But the cheeper under quilts use synthetic insulation like insultex and climashield. APEX Climashield packs better and gives more insulation per oz synthetic wise but down beats them all. Down is like bacon transformed into goose feathers.

How much/(how many layers) climasheild would I need? I would like to compare the price of full length diy, and 3/4 diy UQ.

I would like it to be pretty flexible. More cold weather though, around 20 degrees.
