Is that one of the Ultimates? I am trying to decide what type to get. I like how stable they are. But I am concerned with the loss of speed that comes with that. I'm not going to be fishing off of it. Only paddling around.

After I get one I would be up for another side trip there.

Yes, it's the Ultimate 14.5 and it isn't slow at all. Tracks pretty well too. You can even stand up and pole one of these. I got mine at Austin Kayak. $19 for shipping!

We may try and have a early spring hang at Meriweather Lewis campground on the Natchez Trace parkway in southern middle Tennessee. That might not be too far for you. tnhillbilly

I can tell you first hand that the Pinhoti is a beautiful trail. Just be careful of loose rock. After roadwalking from the FL/AL state line and through Montgomery (couldn't find Hank Williams Sr.'s ghost) what a welcome sight that trail was! Tent sites can be a problem in some areas but there are plenty of trees. I wish I was able to drive that far. Northern Florida and Southern Alabama is home to some of the kindest people around. I also can't say enough about the folks at Cheaha State Park who helped to rescue me after my rockslide incident. It would be so good to see them again.

...and there came to be a day, all too soon, that I became aware that I could travel no more on my long journey. Though I did not arrive where I had planned, I believe that here is exactly where I am supposed to be...

i just got back from a weekend in the sipsey and it was a nice place to be....it also appeared to be enough water flowing in the sispey river where a canoe/kayak trip would be possible....
