    The Nobul Beast TQ

Continued from the Nobul1 TQ thread…

We managed to get through “Down Chaos” this morning and put the final stiches in the Nobul1 TQ this afternoon. The finished quilt came in at 11.6oz, since my initial estimate/target was 11-12oz I’m happy with the finished weight. This “summer weight” quilt is a 12 baffle with sawn/capped foot-box construction, the 4.2oz shell is made of Nobul1 fabric from Tritium Goat and it’s filled with 950+ Goose Down from Feather Industries. I posted a full set of project photos on Flickr but here are a couple of highlights.

WOW! Yet another exceptional piece of work Otter.

What temp do you think that will take you to?

Unbelievable how small it packs, great work once again.

    Oh did I say WOW?!?!

Thanks! This one marks number 10, it’s the culmination of a long learning curve, it’s all “Trial & Error” my friend

It's lofting just over a 1" at the center of the baffles and 1/2" at the walls so I'm thinking +5c (40f) for a rating but, I’ll probably be comfortable so long as it’s above freezing (I’m an insanely warm sleeper). To be honest I'm happy with the compressibility more than the weight.

Glad to see you found a use for a tent. A lot easier than making a Dexter "kill room" as dant8tro would say. Nice work!

I’m using the tent & shopvac because my wife’s going to make an “[o]TTeR Killing Room” if I lose control of anymore feathers ! But seriously, this makes a nicely contained “Down Management” system, I’m using a mesh bag in the Shopvac’s intake to recover feathers during clean-up, it’s very efficient.

I like your foot box and draft tube. I'm going to copy your design except with synthetic, if you don't mind.

Thanks! As much as I’d love to report 11.6oz included the stuff sack but its weight was torn beforehand, 11.6 is the finished quilt alone. Before I added the sewn foot box/cap, the flat quilt weighed 10.4oz, I might do a drawstring & clip style foot box to keep that weight on the next quilt…..Wait! Have I becoming a “Gram Weenie”??
