    Waterproof?

    In the unlikely situation that rain will be coming down sideways in the space that is not covered by the tarp (the front and back of the hammock), will the fabric keep the rain out?

    No.

    Unless by "fabric" you mean something like the HH Super Shelter Under Cover and/or ( to a much less degree) Over Cover. Or a 2Q UQ protector, or JRB Poncho/UQ protector.

    Or unless your hammock is made of something water proof.
