    1st JJ, welcome!
2nd, find Shug's videos. They are a wealth of noobie know how.
There's vast amounts of easy to digest need to know stuff there. That'll get you off to a good start.
And have a great time here at HF!
    .
So many trees, so little time...
We follow where the Swamp Fox guides,
    His friends and merry men are we;
And when the troop of Tarleton rides,
We burrow in the cypress tree.
The turfy hammock is our bed,
Our home is in the red deer's den,
    Our roof, the tree-top overhead,
For we are wild and hunted men.

Go to your local hardware store and get the cheapest 1"+ poly strap that you can (NOT nylon). Maybe Harbor Freight in you area? Use that for tree straps, as it won't stretch.

If this is the hammock you got:

    https://www.foxoutdoor.com/ItemDetai...d=62&cscid=507

then what you have is similar to the M1965 USGI Jungle Hammock.

    This might help:

I have't watched any of these, but from the thumbnails, there's a couple of videos here of similar hammocks:

This pic from Sportsman's Guide shows the hammock hanging:
