    DIY blanket between two hammocks

Pretty cool place for hangers. My hiking buddy and I made the transformation from the ground to the trees a couple of years ago. We've been thru all the trials and tribulations of cold weather hammock camping. We now have it down to a science. We were tired of the bag or blanket sliding all over or falling out completely. Or after going thru all the pains of getting everything just right with the blankets or bags only to have to undo it all a few hours later to go pee. We chose to go with Eno double nest hammocks and really love them. After speaking to a gentleman at 3m for an hour, explaining how we planned on using it between two hammocks, I bought some thinsulate G200 which is very hard to get here in the states. I had my expert seamstress/sewing professional/mom make a blanket from the G200 put together the way 3m recommended. She also sewed Velcro in the bottom hammock and blanket in three places on each side using 2" Velcro to hold it in place and 3 more on each side where the tops of the two hammocks met to hold the hammocks from falling over on the sides. Talk about a dream sleeping in a hammock now. I have only tried it at home so far in the low 40's but all I had was a synthetic mummy sleeping bag as a top cover and I had to take my shirt, socks and hat off because I was sweating in there. The blanket covers the area from head to toe and up both sides of the hammock where your body would touch laying flat or on your side and there was nothing I contacted that was anything but warm. As for the problem with having to pee in the middle if the night, we bought one of those pee bottles you get at the hospital, with the angled, wide top and tie that with a string on the side of our hammocks. When we have to pee we pull the bottle up by the string, take care of business and hang it back over the side and go back to sleep never having to get out if the warm hammock. The thinsulate G200 compresses better and uncompressed better than the CS. Hope this info helps someone from going thru what we went thru to finally sleep in winter weather with out the aggravation and the extra heavy wait of the normal blankets you would have to bring. I can send photos if anyone is interested.

Welcome aboard from Florida. Don't have the winters you do but we love to share info. Sounds like a great system. Pictures and weight will be the two leading questions.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.

I will try to post photos tomorrow if I can figure out how, lol. I'm new here. I own a web hosting business so I will probably post them on my site and post the link here. Thx for the warm welcome guys. Actually, my buddy and I just started a trail journals page. It is brand new in the early stages. I'd appreciate you stopping by ever so often. The visual that I got from this was that he lined one hammock with some thinsulate G200 and put it under the other hammock and used a bit of velcro to keep the two hammock together.

    Is that close?

    Also a pee bottle.

These photos are if the bottom hammock. As you can see, the first pic shows the wide band of material added for the ability of having a strong edge to grab and pull if needed to adjust the blanket under after you are in the top hammock.

The second pic shows the width and placement of the Velcro. It has three of those strips per side. It is attached about 4" from the top edge of the hammock.

The third pic shows one of three strips of Velcro on each side holding the two hammocks together at the top do the edges don't hang over.
