Help...Can Anyone Suggest a Good Route in the Pinhoti??

Planning a hike and hang in the Pinhote National Forest here in Alabama and was wondering if any Hammock Forum members might have any tips on good trails/routes?

Plan is to go from about noon on Friday (22 Feb) until Monday (25 Feb).

Any assist will be greatly appreciated. Also, consider coming along if you are free this weekend!

Right now it is Jaxx and myself on the roster.

Out and back, loop, or point to point?

You can make a big 2 night loop by walking slow, going from Cheaha south to Chinnabee then to Adams and back.

Thanks Tight-Wad. Loop or out and back preferred.

How many miles you recon that is? Any waterfalls or other remarkable terrain? How about camping and open fires. Any restrictions you know of on the top of your head?

    Thanks for the suggestion!

Tight-wad, you old tight-wad. you!!! Was just thinking about you recently (as I began my UQ project) and your hammock set-up, which you displayed for me at Bryant Ridge Shelter on our hike on the AT in VA, when I admired your DIY skills so much.

I just hiked the Pinhoti this weekend from Porter's Gap to Cheaha Trailhead. First time to set foot on the Pinhoti. If I had known you were so close, I would have called for advice!

Grapenut - sorry that I did not respond in February. I must have missed your post that day. Yes, several good waterfalls. Miles? 4 or so from Cheaha to Chinabee junction, another 4 or 5 to Adams? I suggest getting the Pinhoti maps from Cartograph if you plan to hike more of it.

Rainman - long time no see! I wish you would have contacted me for your recent hike, maybe i could have joined you. Have fun with the uq. I'm over 1200 miles on my AT journey now. Doing Mass in May. Want to join us?
