This got me thinking to try my Yakima bike rack which mounts on the receiver hitch. It should be plenty strong to hold a hammock.

I too have been thinking about my yakima rack...i have the outdoorsman 300 rack system which is the one that bolts onto the rails of a pick up truck...im thinking of using one to tie to and then park close enough to a tree for the other....think that would work?

I think Surplus camo net poles should work they are about 4' tall and come in
    fiberglass or alumminum.

This may or may not help with the discussion, but I thought all the readers of this thread might like to see our latest sticker design.

I have a jeep grand cherokee and plan on running a strap over the car and under the wheel. I'll use the inverted v on the other, and tying the guy line down to the ground to whatever I can find, picnic bench, etc , even under the tire of another vehicle. I spend all summer camped in my eno but always had something to tie to, this trip will be a bit different. I worst comes to worst I can always sleep inside the jeep ......
well, I just tried this out in the backyard with my jeep and discovered a few problems. One, the 2x4 end had some stretch to it. between the straps I used, the tree trunk, etc. On the car side I found the suspension sags and combining both problems the whole rig was very stretchy and not at all tight. also setting the proper amount of sag will have to be fine tuned. I got pics but that'll have to come later. I leave either in the morning or the next day and put all this to the real test!

I just got an '07 Wrangler as a replacement for my ailing '89. Any recommendations for Jeep roof racks? I'd want to have something that's a no-mod bolt on.

...I am extremely envious of you Jeepsters.

Someday I will have a Jeep, and some things made with goose down.
