Ocala Florida Trail Hang - march 9-12 or march 11-14

    When: March 9th- 12th or March 11th- 14th
Where: Ocala Nation Forest - Starting at Juniper Springs and going north
Size: Anyone can join up, the more the better!
Weather : High: 79 Low:51 (this is from the Weather Channel and covers all possible camping days)

I know this is late for a lot of people but I still want to put it out there for anyone that wants to join. I will be backpacking four 4 days and 3 nights in Ocala. Starting at juniper springs and then going north for 2 days then turning around and hiking back. This is a casual thing not a regimented "have to" hike. If we want to stop for a long lunch or something we can. It's just it is my spring break and I'm taking off of school ( duh its sprig break ) and work to enjoy the outdoors. I haven't set a date yet but it will either be March 9th- 12th or March 11th- 14th. If you would like to join and have a preference on the date then let me know. So far it will just be me and maybe a close friend. Everyone is welcome.

I'd be willing to do the 10th and 11th. I'd have to leave the night of the 11th, but I think I can wrangle rides associated with it.

Put me down as a "possible". I'll have a definite answer by next week, depending on how and where you want to meet.

Weather is going to be a key factor of the go / no-go for me. After the Sherpa Hang and temps in the 90s I'm hoping for cooler weather. If a "cold" front rolls into the forecast for that time period I might be able to take some time off. It also depends on when my kids have out of school.....

FLRider: okay, I depending on who is going we could leave on the 10th. That will work for me. We will see what happens.

Zukiguy: Ya the 90+ weather can be brutal. I looked at the Weather Channel and for all the possible days that we will be out there it is projected to be around a high of 79 and a low of 51. I think a front is coming through that week.

I will try to keep an eye on it and post an update if it changes.

    Update:
I will be getting to the juniper springs camp (march 10th) around 10:00am and will start on the trail not to long afterwards. The weather seems to be almost the same as before but getting a little warmer as the days go by. Still not getting any hotter than mid 80s.

Alright. Will make a top effort to be there at Juniper by 10:00 on the 10th. I'll PM you about route planning and such so that I can find a spot for my ride to meet me on the 11th. Really looking forward to this one!

Re: Ocala Florida Trail Hang - march 9-12 or march 11-14

Heads Up: There's a fire in Hopkins Prairie that's consumed close to 2000 acres.

Bummer: the north part of the state is drowning while the central part burns!

Jax thanks for the update. We will keep an eye open for any spots. I wouldnt really walk through 2000 acres of burnt land. I will but ... we will seee what happens.

Well in it has also been hot then really cold and windy.

    Got that right, Mike

I think Ocala's been burned every time I've hike through. Just thought I'd let you know. Good luck!
