As most, for group get togethers I bring a chair. In particular I carry either a generic folding chair or preferably my antigravity chair.

For solo backpacking trips I've yet to find something I like enough to lug its weight around so I just use a small self inflating sit pad, I just happen to also use it under my feet in the hammock as well.

I bring a coleman woodsman II. 1.78 lbs, but I am cheap and I want some lower back support, so I'll lug it around for now. the small thermarest fits perfect on it. It does the job for me.

I'm a big guy. I've a fused ankle and now two new replacemnt knees, so I am not very nimble.
Scout camping- I've a big folding chair I throw in the gear trailer.
Hiking or Scout Camping- I also always bring a Walkstool (http://www.walkstool.com ) . Goes to 26" tall and rated at 550 lbs.
    Compact and easy to use.

Here's a link where I review the chair. Look several posts down in it and you'll see a comparison with my 3 other camp chairs/stools.

    You sit in your stool?!?!?!

For backpacking I just sit on the ground (on a pad or something) or in my hammock.

I just got a alite monarch chair, too. It is very comfy and much easier to get in and out of than I feared. Still don't know if the extra pound is worth adding. Solo, no, I'll use my hammock, but most of the time I hike with a friend (with a pad sleeve chair) and it would be more sociable to sit around the fire and talk.

Solo...hammock...group or a place to sit on a day hike I bring the Monarch. Just don't consume alcohol before sitting in it.

I use the Therm-a-Rest Trekker Lounge Kit over my Therm-a-Rest mattress. This offers many benefits.
    1) It protects the mattress
    2) Has an s built-in fleece pillow sleeve.
    3) Washable.
    4) This setup can be used in the hammock as a pad, as a chair or on the ground in those rare cases you can’t hang in the hammock.
    5) While sitting in it in chair mode your body heat is reflected back adding warmth while sitting.
