Welcome to HF--absolutely the best place to hang out online. Now check out http://www.backwoodsdaydreamer.com/ for some great guides to making your own gear and some good materials. Lots of other places on here for the DIY crowd like Wilderness Logics. Oh yeah, if you haven't checked out Shug's hammock videos that's another great place to get started.

These instructions were simple enough for me. I didn't bother with the hem, so no sewing needed and I now use plastic cable ties instead of whipping the ends. The whole thing takes less than 10mins to put together.

Welcome, Timothy! You've come to the right place!

I made my own underquilt from a spare sleeping bag. There is a lot of great help here.

Re: whant to git into hammock camping,

Welcome from SC. I have made all of my own gear except my tarp. I'd be glad to help any way I can. Currently, I am making lots of tablecloth hammocks. I get the materials from www.tableclothsfactory.com. They come prehemmed and if you prefer an end channel hammock instead of a whipped hammock, you can easily sew a channel into the ends. I do other modifications to the ones I make, but you don't have to get fancy to get swinging between two trees. :-)
