'Classic.' A book which people praise and don't read.” ― Mark Twain
Who cares about showers, gourmet food, using flush toilets. Just keep on walking and being away from it all.
There are times that the only way you can do something is to do it alone.
Stormcrow, kids at our campouts are one of our greatest joys. They love the campfire of course & the nearby river. With town & stores nearby, there's plenty for kids to do. We set up a large 15x20 canopy near the camp fire so there's a dry place in case of rain. The rental cabins in the campground are adjacent to our group campsite & some families find them perfect too. We generally have enough kids to keep each other occupied--especially since the river beach near our campsite is the favorite kid hangout in the entire campground. We look forward to meeting your family.

Sounds great! They love it outside and are very easy going so I am sure they will make some friends if there are any other kids there. Sam is another tree climber too so I will have to keep an eye on him!

Stormcrow, my DD2 will be 9 by Hot Springs hangout. If the other DD's (1 and 3) come, one is 11 and one is 6, so there may be a few kids around for your kids to play with.

I can't say for sure until a little closer to the time, but I've been there before, had a great time, and will do all I can to do it again. Ed and Karen are exceptional hosts, the campground has basic amenities (toilets & showers), and the town has character and charm (and food). The AT comes right through town so it's easy to do a day hike either north or south...there are beautiful views of the French Broad River from Lovers Leap going north and interesting views looking down on the town going south. Who could ask for anything more?

Hopefully, the Hot Springs campout will be very popular this year. We have trees for about 20 hammocks on our usual group campsite. However, adjacent & nearby campsites have plenty of trees for 100 hammocks or more. So as the number of attendees increases, we'll reserve additional campsites as needed. MacEntyre's adjacent campsite can accomodate several hammocks. Bringing hammock stands is encourged since it can allow more folks to be in the group campsite. I'll keep an eye on the number of campsites we'll need.

There is a small chance I will be hiking into the area on my thru this year. I am planning on leaving later than I did last year. It all depends on when I have enough money to leave.
"Oh, like an Afghan Warlord"
I may be able to make it.
I'll have to see where we are with our house construction.
Worst case, I can stop by for a little while.
BTW, anyone else heard rumors that the campground may change ownership?
