I think I'm going to go with either a tablecloth or the Grand Trunk Ultra Light.

Now to find a decent tarp. How small can I go? I'm thinking an Equinox Egret, but will 6x8 be big enough?

Re: Cheap hammock I can use to let the wife try out the Blackbird?

I would just do a tablecloth hammock if it was short miles and not much use...

Just for Fyi I have a grand trunk skeeter beeter that, like you. I use as a gear sling or chair on extended runs. What about the net getting in the way? Just flip it over. . . TADAAAA! NETLESS HAMMOCK! :-)
