Re: Tell me about your first...

I started with a Shamu... 40* synthetic... Knowing what I know now, I know it will work for 60% of my trips that need insulation... But it is honest in its temp rating of 40*, at 36* I'm cold, at 38* I'm cool... If I had it to do over I would stay full length but probably go down, and bump down to 20*... That would cover everything better for me... But when I buy my 20* stuff my Shamu will still come out with me to save the weight when its 40*+... But at 14oz the Shamu is no heavy weight, packs down football/soccer ball size... Which is small enough for me and ny system...

I'm right there with Brute. My first UQ was the Shamu it works very well for me down to 40degF but not below. It comes with on 85% of my outtings. Combined with my RAB topbag they make a great system.

I have JRB TQ/UQ for colder weather but they don't get as much use as the Shamu/RAB combo.

I still haven't made up my mind. My lack of $ right now is giving me some time. I'm thinking going with the HG 20 Incubator and TQ by Enlightened Equipment.

JRB Mount Washington 4 Zero Degree. My first night with it was on Springer Mt, Georgia at 7 degrees. Practically no learning curve to it and still my go-to quilt.
It's not procrastinating, its proactively delaying the implementation of the energy-intensive phase of the project until the enthusiasm factor is at its maximum effectiveness.
