    Hello from Omaha NE

Hello guys and gals, my name is William and I am a total hammock noob, fresh off the ground! I got to try a hammock for the first time last 4th of July and have been researching them since. I finally caved in and bought one this week, ordered a Blackbird XLC DBL 1.1 for and got an OES MacCat Deluxe for my Tarp. I decided to try hammock camping because I like to do a little kayak river camping and also would like to do more backpacking/hiking trips. Thanks to everyone on HF for all the good information and videos (Shug love the videos bud!) and for helping me decide on what hammock to get. I hope I made a good choice for a good 3 season setup. If anyone has any good first time tips for a noob I would love to hear them before my first time out. I have a Couple weeks before my hammock arrives! I can't wait!

Welcome to hammock forums. As far as tips go. Dont lay in your hammock until youre ready to fall asleep or it may cause premature napping syndrom!

Lots of good people here! Glad to be part of the HF community, and definetly looking forward to some of that premature napping syndrom! Does anyone here have any suggestions for must see good hammock camping locations near my neck of the woods(Eastern Nebraska)? If its worth a 5hr drive let me know, I am always looking for somewere to escape to for the weekend!

Indian Cave State park is the best ive found in our neck of the woods. Some good primitive camping sites on the trails. Something more local is Hitchcock park over by crescent. I did that a few weeks ago and there are primitive spots also, although many of them are in exposed to weather spots.

Glad to see I might be seeing more hammocks around town!

Welcome from another Omahan. It appears that there are getting to be quite a few members in this area. You are off to a good start with your choice of equipment. I also use Hitchcock Nature Center as a 'test lab' and to limber up my hiking legs.

I have plans on going to Indian Cave as soon as I receive my hammock or the weather warms but I will definitely check out Hitchcock Nature Center too. I talked a friend into kayaking and have now pulled him into hammocks as well and we are always looking for good places to go. Look forward to meeting everyone on the trails or in the trees, Cheers!
