    Lightbulb DIY Underquilt/Topquilt

I'm planning on making an underquilt and topquilt, and I'm wondering how much (800+) fill down I would be looking at needing for a 3/4 underquilt and a topquilt to fit me at about 5'8 ish. I'm going to be mainly using it for 3 season, but as it stands currently I have a sleeper Zero bag from snugpak and a cheap summer sleeping bag as an underquilt and I've been out in the snow in it and was warm, so I'd take into account that I'm a fairly warm sleeper.

Any advice would be really helpful!

    Thanks,

    Welcome to the Forums!

I tend to look at some vendors and their sizing, dimensions and temp ratings and use those as a basis for my work. I believe a 3 season uq for about your size has about 12 ounces of 900 or 850. A 3/4 UQ at 20* about 8oz.

Dragon has a good idea, and I do it myself. If you making one custom size to fit you, these links might be helpful. TQs are made flat. UQs can be cut differentially to fit the curve of the hammock when occupied.

Thanks to the folks that put these spreadsheets together.

Good luck on your projects. If these links don't help, ask again. We're here to help.

Thanks guys, this is really helpful! Just need to buy myself the materials and I'll be away, on route to ultralight - getting rid of those heavy sleeping bags!

Your help is really appreciated, happy hanging!
