I was the one who used two blackbirds under the mj last weekend. The trees were pretty much a perfect setup for dual-hammock hanging, two pairs of trees, each pair a couple of feet apart, so the two hammocks were nicely parallel and close together. I strung the mj from the foot tree of one hammock to the head tree of the other hammock, and used four hiking poles at the corners.
I wouldn't want to use this setup in a heavy blowing rain, but the forecast was for clear skies, so the tarp was mostly for a wind break and backup in case there were some drizzles. There was just enough coverage to squeeze both hammocks underneath it.
