    Hammock rigging in my garden

    Hi all,

Im busy landscaping my garden and want to add a means of hanging a hammock from a removable post. My thoughts are to use a scaffolding pole inserted into a concrete hole, the pole being 3m long with 0.6m in the ground giving me means to hang my hammock and a tarp if needed.

Anyone tried this? Would the pole be strong enough?

    Thanks in advance

You could create a gazebo and use lumber strong enough to hang from. Done properly and you could hang at least 5 hammocks at one time

It can be done, however I'm uncertain as to the strength of the pole you are purposing to use. I'd suggest also running a pair of stake lines in a V opposite of the hammock to help prevent the pole from bending when the hammock is loaded. Then you'd probably only need to burry it a half meter at most.

Good luck and I can't wait to see pictures of it setup and in action.

Re: Hammock rigging in my garden

Thanks, unfortunately running a 'v' line or building a gazibo isn't an option due to space and needing a clear walkway. I'll give this s try and if it doesn't work, well its a lesson for future reference :-D

Its going to be a while yet before its finished as im only getting a few hours here and there to work on the garden.

Pics will follow, with my new diy hammock too.

While not removable, a two post pergola only requires the same space as the poles you're planning, is a beautiful addition to a garden and provides support for your choice of vine.

Re: Hammock rigging in my garden

Gmcttr, thanks for your comment, though unfortunately a pergola doesn't fit in with my landscaping plans. It is a nice touch though.. laying in the hammock with honeysuckle vines draping off the top and all the bees and butterflies, would suit my wife to a tee, just doesn't fit in our design :-( thank you though.
