Thanks for all the great advice. I've been replacing my more bulky gear with more lightweight and compact so I think I'll go with the 46.

For not much more weight check out the Kestrel series if you havent already. The Kestrel 48 will pack 30 to 40 pounds. My friend that is a backpacking guide uses the kestrel and says its the best pack he has ever had.

I'm gonna be swinging by REI tomorrow so I'll check them out too.

    Thanks for the info.

I worked at a gear shop and we had weighted bags to put into the packs, I have never looked at packs at REI but I am sure they have them as well, it helps to get an idea of how the pack will ride with weight in it.

I have the little one which I'll use for 2, maybe 3 day if I'm not worried about weather. After that the food makes it too heavy to be worth it and I move to my heavier pack.

    Exos 46 or 58?

Are bear canisters required? Those take up a LOT of pack space. Other than that, the 46L for sure.

Hey MM, was just looking around for info on the exos and saw this. You wouldn't happen to still be looking for a home for this?

I have the 58 and it does very well for me...I had it out on 4-5 day trips even in the middle of a PA February (6*F and snowing)...It has carried all my gear...I did a lot of research on here before I started shelling out a lot $...I even bought my wife the 46...Either way you will be very pleased IMO.

I have a 58 and I love it. It's a bit overkill for summer. I'm considering picking up an Ohm for that.

I have the 58 and really like it. I have some light gear that not pack small. Plus, I like to use a large stuff sack for my down quilt. I usually leave the top lid at home.
