    Bolivia/Southport, NC

I'm supposed to go down & visit my in-laws in for father's day. I was wondering if there's anything down there worth taking a hike to.

Ik its pretty flat & bland, but you never know! It'd have to be just a day trip, within an hour or so drive. Thanks!

Catch the ferry from Southport over to the east side of the Cape Fear River to Fort Fisher State park. Last of the forts to fall during the late unpleasantness. Lots of history and there are trails through the dunes and maritime forest. Museum has some interesting civil war cannons, etc.

Awesome, thanks! We've visited the aquarium over there, now I'll have to look at this.

Once you have crossed the river on the ferry, it is only 10 minutes beyond the aquarium to Carolina Beach State Park. Sandy hiking trails lead to the banks of the river. At the Sugarloaf sand dune, you can hang and enjoy the scenery.
