Hello from Iowa, and my DIY gear beginnings

    Hello all!

I'm a newbie hanger from central Iowa and decided to start off by jumping head first into DIY.

It all started because of a trip later this summer to the Boundary Waters. I was starting to buy up some gear, and a friend mentioned hammock camping, so I started doing some research which led me to this forum! You guys have all been a huge help, and didn't even know it. (Thanks to you guys with all the youtube videos! ~ Shug and Fronky come to mind, and all of you who have added to the guides and calculators!)

So far my DIY gear list includes (in order of build date)

Stuff Sacks (perfect for a beginner)
Hammock - 1.1oz single layer, gathered and whipped)
    Whoopie Slings and Tree Straps
    BlackBishops Black Cat Tarp
    Snakeskin net tube for tarp
    Bugnet hammock sock
    Down Under Quilt.

Left to make (materials in the mail as I type this)
    Down Summer Top Quilt
    Down pillow/stuff sack
    Ridge-line organizer

Oh, and I have to repeat most of these projects because my fiance loves my hammock and wants one!

Anything I am forgetting? I blame all of you for starting this...

    Here are some pics :)

PS - keep up the awesome posts and youtube videos! Love watching vids from the group hangs! And hope to make it out for one someday.

    Awesome, heist!

Welcome and great looking gear! Yes, it's very nicely done. Like the contrasting colors and quality work.

But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. (Luke 5:16 NIV)

He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one." (Luke 22:36 ESV)

While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. (1 Thessalonians 5:3 ESV)

    Triple post.

Your signature holds a verse that is actually the reason for my bwca trip! A couple fellow believers and I will be getting away to do some serious prayer and focusing.

Welllll.... I feel like an underachiever. Nice work on the DIY. Now that the semester is done time to get started on some of my own DIY. Welcome to the forum.

Nice work on the DIY gears. I'm kinda in the opposite boat as you since I've made a gathered end hammock, tarp, and finished and underquilt from underquilts.com for my girlfriend. I got hammock stuff for xmas and bday so I didn't need to make my own. I'm really starting to think about making a light weight bridge hammock for myself.
