If I know it's not going to dip below 60*, I'm okay with not taking under insulation (though my current set-up has me carrying the things necessary to make under insulation if needed; my poncho doubles as the outside of a Garlington taco). Buuut...I'm a nearly-inhumanly warm sleeper (I once took a space blanket and my poncho as under insulation down to 43* F without freezing to death).

Most folks find that they get cold without bottom insulation somewhere between 70* and 75* F. YMMV, though.

Guess everyone's different... I'll use summer UQ until overnight lows get near the eighty mark. Then, depending on the hammock, either no UQ or a poncho as UQ - vented so the breezes can come through. Might experiment with suspending a light fleece blanket as a UQ late this summer.

Just curious why this is under weather protection instead of "bottom insulation" as the title states?

I really want an UQ, but it just isn't in the budget for the time being, so I make due with pads for now. I'll get an UQ one day. Been eyeing up the AHE Jarbidge.
